SAN BERNARDINO, CA — March 24, 2026 — Most physicians build a career in one place. Dr. Jason Lohr built his across three continents and then came home to lead one of the most important health systems in the country.
“Dr. Lohr’s career is a masterclass in what it looks like to put patients before convenience,” said Dr. Vanessa Perez Trang, Executive Director of Time for Change Foundation. “He has trained physicians in underserved communities across the world, built infrastructure where none existed, and now leads a health system serving a quarter million people a year. We are profoundly honored to recognize him.”
On Friday, April 24, 2026, Time for Change Foundation will present Dr. Jason Lohr with the Nancy Varner Angel Award at its 24th Annual Awards Gala, Anchored in Promise, Powered by Purpose.
After graduating from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2001 and completing his Family Medicine residency at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Dr. Lohr made a choice that would define his career. He and his wife — also a Family Physician — packed up and moved to Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where he joined the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital as both a physician trainer and Medical Director. There, he helped train the next generation of Nigerian Family Physicians through the only Adventist residency training program on the African continent. He also taught life support courses, ran the Women’s Health department, and established the second American Heart Association Training Center in Nigeria building the kind of medical infrastructure that outlasts any single physician’s tenure.
Five years later, the Lohrs moved again but this time to Honduras, where Dr. Lohr joined Valle de Angeles Hospital near Tegucigalpa as Medical Director. True to form, he didn’t just show up to work. He built another AHA Training Center, extending life-saving education to yet another underserved community.
After returning to the United States, Dr. Lohr joined the Loma Linda University Family Medicine Residency program as a faculty member before stepping into his current role as CEO of SAC Health System, the largest specialty and teaching Federally Qualified Health Center in the United States, serving more than 250,000 patients annually across 12 locations in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
And he still hasn’t stopped. Holding a certificate in Tropical and Travel Medicine, Dr. Lohr continues to travel overseas four weeks each year, covering for physicians in global settings so they can take the rest they need to keep doing the work.
